Our Spotlight guest for this month is our lovely Financial Controller, Shaynee! She is in charge of the accounts and tending to customer accounting enquiries in the office. Find out below what she most enjoys about her job and some other secrets about herself.
What do you do?
Oversee the accounts, tend to customer accounting queries, run our payroll and keep the boys in line.
What’s life like at ONGC?
Simply, it is fun. Even though everyone works hard, we can always have a laugh at each other and ourselves.
What’s the best thing about working for ONGC?
Seeing the passion all the guys have for what they do and our clients. They may be “computer nerds” but love every one of them.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
It really is like one big family. We all have our good days and bad days but we all care and have each other’s backs.
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t in your current role?
I always wanted to do something associated with Ancient History. I still have such a passion for it. I wanted to be an archaeologist long before Indiana Jones. But like him, I don’t think I would have coped too well with snakes or spiders.
How do you define success?
Good friends, full belly, shoulder to cry on, the laughter of my kids, feeling loved and the health and wellbeing of my family… And of course, I am no martyr so a million dollars wouldn’t go astray.
Who do you look up to?
I hadn’t realised until I was older and got over myself, but I look up to my mum. I would be very proud to be told I was like her.
What’s the one thing you couldn’t live without?
My beautiful children!! My lovely husband and family.
What is your biggest fear?
Anything terrible happening to those I love!! Also, prohibition once again being legalised. And, even though I love cruising, I have a real fear of being lost or drowning at sea.
What is your favourite thing to do?
Travelling, watching a good movie, reading, hanging out with the family and I love a good BBQ.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you
I was once seriously hurt on a Ferris Wheel. I also won Miss Personality at my school, and lastly, I love storm watching – especially sitting at the beach watching it roll in.
What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do?
Raising my children on my own, but this was also the most rewarding thing I have ever done. Also sadly, losing both my parents close together – it doesn’t matter how old we are, they are always our Mum and Dad, and are irreplaceable.
If you could tell your 13-year-old self something now, what would it be?
Oh goodness, there is so much I could tell my older teen self!
- Purple lipstick doesn’t look good on anyone!
- You also don’t need to add extra shoulder pads to your outfit – it doesn’t make your waist look smaller, it just makes you look like a female nightclub bouncer!
- Perming your hair, NO, just NO.
- Drinking Blue Curacao and lemonade doesn’t make you look sophisticated, it will make you terribly sick!
But life is precious, don’t waste a minute, spend time on the small things and appreciate those who matter most.
Thank you so much to Shaynee for her time spent thinking of answers to our questions! Next month we will be posting Serge’s answers to our questions in another Spotlight Blog Post!
