For this month, we’ve asked Serge, our Operations Manager, a few questions about himself for you to get to know him a bit better. He talks all about he defines success, who he looks up to and the two people he couldn’t live without. Keep reading to find out all about Serge!
What do you do?
Streamlining our operational services, making sure our customers receive the best possible care and being dedicated to lifting the team and company to new heights; to boldly go where no Gold Coast MSP has gone before!
What’s life like at ONGC?
Whenever I think of a perfect work/life balance, it requires a work environment where people can be themselves and enjoy having fun with their colleagues. At ONGC, going to work is never a chore, and working with the team that we have, has enriched my life.
What’s the best thing about working for ONGC?
Hands down, our team of incredible people! We strive to find and hire staff, not necessarily just based on their skill set, but more importantly, on their personality. Our culture is very important!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
With my OCD as a driving factor, putting processes into place and making sure that the team works as efficiently as possible, really makes my heart sing. That, and ‘Hawaii Shirt Fridays’.
What would you do if you weren’t in your current role?
I’d probably be a train conductor.
How do you define success?
Success to me is when you set high goals in life, shoot for the stars, and with hard work & dedication, achieve these goals. Success is enjoyed most when you had to fight for it!
Who do you look up to?
Arnold Schwarzenegger; for successfully achieving everything that he put his mind to, from becoming Mister Universe to movie star to a politician. He proved that hard work & dedication will get you anywhere!
What’s the one thing you couldn’t live without?
My family. My partner and my baby girl are the only people that matter, and therefore, all of my life decisions are based around them.
What is your biggest fear?
Losing my partner or baby girl, that would be devastating.
What is your favourite thing to do?
BBQ! Grilling meat, fire, friends, a couple of drinks in the sun…What’s not to love about BBQ’ing?!
Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
Back in 1996, when I was 18 years old, I’ve quit school and successfully played semi-professional poker for roughly two years until my dad ordered me to get a proper job!
What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do?
Leaving everything behind in Holland and migrating to Australia. Choosing a better lifestyle for the whole family, despite the people and life you leave behind was a tough choice but has paid off big time having achieved the dream!
If you could tell your 13-year-old self something now, what would it be?
Trust your gut and don’t just accept the average things in life.
That’s a wrap! Next month we are going to put Harry under the spotlight and ask him to open up about what life is like at ONGC Systems! Check back next month for another spotlight article.
